Papayafish meets KERF!

January 24, 2010

So as per usual, this is a little late.  But still super exciting nonetheless!  Last weekend I met up with Kath from Kath Eats Real Food, my first blog obsession, and she was absolutely adorable!  I’ve been reading KERF for a long time, and it was so strange to meet her in person.

She had a blogger meet-up at the Brooklyn Brewery in Williamsburg.  When she said she was coming to NY I literally did a dance in my computer chair.

We went on a tour:

Which was actually just a two part speech.  And I couldn’t really hear him very well.  Ohhh well.  We also stuck our grimy fingers in a bag of barley (i think?) without permission (I’m hoping this is for display purposes only, and not going to end up in someone’s drink some day).

Unfortunately, Kath got stuck on a ridiculously long line, so I went outside to meet her.  I think I was rambling because I was so excited, and I definitely made her hug me.  Is that weird?  I feel like I know her, but she certainly doesn’t know me!  Oh well, she was super nice :)

We look like best friends, right??

In a post a few weeks ago she mentioned that she loved Colgate Wisps, but they were too pricey…so I grabbed a few boxes from work and passed them along.  That’s why she’s awkwardly holding up a box of Wisps.  My idea, not hers….

Overall there were about 20 KERF readers, and I had a blast talking to fellow blogaholics.  The place was jam packed but the beers were cold & tasty, and the company was great:

And a few non-bloggy friends also stopped by the brewery..

*****************************************************************

Since last Saturday, I have been one little workoutaholic.  The week in review went something like this:

Monday – Run 3 miles (out), Jillian Level 2
Tuesday – Run 5 miles (tread)
Wednesday – Physique57 at lunch, Cardio Kickboxing after work
Thursday – Swim 3,600 mtrs, 1.5 hours w. Masters swim team (ouch..)
Friday – REST!
Saturday – Run 5 miles (out)
Sunday – sat on my lazy bum

There was actually a run & Jilly on the schedule today, but I think someone put something in my Budweisers last night that made me unable to move today.  OK, maybe it was just the Budweisers.  Regardless, I’m tired.  The band last night was fantastic, however, so you should def def check em out:  http://pearlandthebeard.com/  If you ever have a chance to see them live, DO IT.  Beautiful.

I’m still working on a new camera.  I’ve decided to fork up the money for a DSLR, but it’s taking time to decide which one to get.  Anyone have an educated opinion about Nikon vs. Canon??  I’ve heard pros/cons to both, so unless someone wows me about a Nikon, the cheaper price sticker on the Canon might be the deciding factor.  We’ll see.

I’m up at 6 tomorrow to get to the gym before work…can’t wait for the warmer weather so I can run outside in the AM without freezing my tuckus off!  Goodnight world wide web!

1,000 Miles in 2010…or, where have I been for 5 months?

January 15, 2010

Well, hello again, world wide web.  Long time no see.

For various unforeseen reasons, not excluding the notorious car accident/broken leg incident, or the case of the broken/fixed/lost camera, and other personal emotional journey’s, I decided to take some time off of blogging.  “Some time” somehow turned into 5 months.  Oops.  Sorry I never said Goodbye, I know that was wrong.  I promise I won’t leave you like that again.

Butttt, bygones be bygones, yes?  Blogging makes me happy.  So, while still rather camera-less most of the time (my lovely sister is kind enough to lend hers often), I’m back.

The second half of 2009 was, more or less, an emotional rollercoaster.  I have kept up my healthy eating habits, and started running again in October, only THREE months after the accident.  I really should have posted the night after they let me “run” for the first time on the treadmill at physical therapy.  It was for 5 minutes, and absurdly s-l-o-w.  But it was AMAZING.  I wish I had documented that feeling.

Surprisingly, my weight dropped drastically during recovery (10ish pounds?).  But as expected, it has creeped back up over the holiday season, to get me smack-dab where I was on the morning of July 7th.  Not so bad, I’d say.  But mehhh who care, right?  It’s a number. A boring one, if you ask me.

And sooo that brings me to where I am in the year two thousand and TEN.  I’m at a happy weight.  I enjoy food (and *ahem* beverages) when I feel like it, but am a professional at self control most of the time.  I ran my first half marathon last year, and feel like another one this spring is in order.  I will be participating in the same one as last year, The More/Fitness Women’s Half on April 25th.  I’ve also signed up for the lottery for the 2010 ING NYC Marathon.  The chances of being picked for the lottery are SLIM, so I might be signing up for the Marine Corp Marathon that takes place in DC at the same time.

Regardless,  I’ll be completing the 9+1 Rule for the NYC Marathon in 2010, which guarantees a spot in the following years marathon.  I’ll have to run 9 NYRR official races, and volunteer at 1.  The first will be the NYRR Gridiron Classic 4-miler on February 7th.  This should make for a LOT of running this year :)   Gotta make up for all those miles I didn’t run in the 2nd half of ‘09!  I’m setting a (possibly unrealistic) goal of 1,000 miles in 2010!!!  Eesh.  I might regret this, but whatevs.  I’m excited about it.  And even if I come in short, at leat it’ll get my butt out there and running!  And with a half and a full this year, that’ll kill almost 40 miles of it :)   So far I’ve run 12.  A little behind, but not to worry.  The length of my runs has direct correlation with the temperature outside, and right now its FREEZING.

So I think my blogging will focus a lot more around the running aspect of my life, as opposed to daily updates about the same oatmeal bowls I eat for breakfast everyday.  Trust, I enjoy reading about all of YOUR oatmeal bowls (I read about approximately 11 bowls of oatmeal every morning…..while I’m eating oatmeal), but I got kindof bored sharing mine.  But not to worry – PapayaFish still eats.  Plenty.  I will be sure to share any interesting/delicious meals with ya’ll.

On today’s Lunch Menu:  Landmarc  at the Time Warner Center.  Not gonna lie, the Croque Monsieur is looking DELISH.  Mmmmmmmm.

That’s all for now – I’ll be seein’ ya (more often than not!)  Have a fabulous day!!!

Healed? No, not really

August 17, 2009

So for the last few weeks I’ve really been feeling like my ankle was doing great.  The pain was virtually GONE.  And then, yesterday, it decided an encore was in order.  It’s a different pain.  Maybe a worse pain.  Ugh.

Called the doctor and they said I shouldn’t worry, but MAN, I’ll be bummed if I’m not healing well.  Guess I’ll have to wait and see.

Due to the unruly pain I decided today was a work at home day.  And that was probably a good choice, since we’ve been super s-l-o-w and it might have been painful just having to be at work on such a boring day.  Therefore, I’ve been spending my day continuing the LOST marathon, and it has been quite lovely, thank you very much :)

Breakfast this morning was a normal bowl of oats, with half a banana, flax, almond milk & some coconut.  Lunch was leftover salad & leftover pan-fried fluke, and my leftover half a banana from breakfast.  Lots of leftovers in this house!  I’m getting quite hungry again now, so will will probably venture downstairs for a snack as soon as possible!

In MUCH MUCH better news…get ready…….my repaired camera is in the MAIL!!!!!!  Gosh I’m excited.  I can not wait to get back to regularly scheduled blogging! Yayyy!

Fresh Fish & LOST

August 16, 2009

Blogging without a camera is like Christmas without snow.  I guess I see the point…but really..what’s the point?

I spent the day Friday, instead of being at work, on a boat fishing for flounder & fluke in Zach’s Bay and the Atlantic Ocean right off the coast of Point Look Out.  SO FUN!  I was terribly sad of course to not be able to take pictures of the big guys for you all.  They were gorgeous!  I only caught one keeper, but overall we came home with 10 :)   There are few things in life like freshly caught fish!  Obviously, dinner Friday night was pan-fried fluke. YUM.

It’s been so gorgeous this weekend, and somehow I’ve ended up not in the sun since Friday.  I spent the day yesterday having a 10 hour Lost marathon in Brooklyn- I’ve been told it’s the greatest show on earth and that I absolutely need to catch up.  I’m working on it.  10 hours later and I’m halfway through season one.  Eesh, this is going to take FOREVER.

Eats included great stuff like:
Breakfast – Oatmeal & Banana
Lunch – Grilled Cheese with Tomato on Whole Wheat
Dinner – Artichoke Shitake Pesto Pizza (wtf?)
Dessert – CHEESECAKE (double wtf?)

This boy is trying to fatten me up!  But I liked it. Hah. So delicious!

Brunch this morning was a VERY filling Eggs Florentine – poached eggs & sauteed spinach on an English Muffin.  I got the Hollandaise on the side; I’m just not that crazy about it.  I wished they had whole wheat English muffins, but they did not.  It came with house potatoes and a side salad?  Weird with breakfast.  I’m happy (ashamed?) to report I licked my plate clean.  Gotta get it while the gettins good!

Came home still filled to the brim, ate a banana a few hours ago, and am now feeling quite tubby & happy on the couch :)

In other new, I’ve lost almost 6 pounds since I got this cast on my leg.  Counterintuitive?  Yes.  I’m assuming it’s at least half muscle, but I think overall my calorie intake has decreased drastically since I’ve stopped moving as much.  This weekend is obviously an anomoly to that statement. It makes me think a little more about the Time article that Cait talked about that week in this post.

I operate under the philosophy that weight management is a product of what I eat AND how much I move.  Papayafish eats AND moves.  And although I do feel a little jelly-like these days (my muscles are fading FAST), I’ve got to admit, those pounds are dropping.  I’m not saying I would ever ever ever promote not excercising.  I’m just sayin’

That’s all for now – this house is  hotbox and this laptop on my lap aint helpin.  Enjoy a lazy Sunday!

In a World Without Pictures

August 13, 2009

More like in a blog without pictures.  I’m working on that new camera, I swear!

Yesterday’s lunch was some TJ’s pre-cooked balsamic rosemary chicken (the best!), with some spinach & microwave-cooked frozen spinach.  Simple & Delicious.

Unfortunately, my stomach ailments were still at work, so I didn’t feel very great at all for the rest of the day.  I came home and munched on one piece of whole wheat with a Tbsp TJ’s Almond Butter & a Tbsp TJ’s organic raspberry fruit spread.  PB&J always makes me feel like a little kid, and I love it.  I was really planning on an evening post last night ( Sorry again for only posting once a day this week!), but my tummy hurt and all I wanted to do was pass out.

Luckily I think I’m on the mend!  I finished my breakfast this morning and was still hungry!  That has got to be a good sign.  I’m not really feeling 100% yet, but I think I’m getting there.

Speaking of breakfast, it was cottage cheese, flax, a banana, blueberries & sliced almonds.  Yum-tastic.  With some coffee of course.

I am super sad today though, as I am NOT on my way to Boston for the Healthy Living Summit.  I had to give up my ticket because of this silly leg cast, and I’m sortof heartbroken.  I was so looking forward to meeting all you fellow bloggers!  The swag bag wouldn’t have been half bad either! Hah.  Oh well.  If you are going to Boston, HAVE A BLAST!

I had already requested tomorrow off of work when I thought I’d be going, so lucky me gets to start my weekend early! It’s so close I can taste it :)

Use your imagination

August 12, 2009

I really need to start getting some sleep.  I am one tired girl today.  Breakfast was an EXACT repeat of yesterdays, so boring.  Sorry!

But hold up, rewind.

Yesterday’s lunch was a hodgepodge of leftovers including:
-mixed greens
-raw carrots
-chickpeas
-couscous
-cooked frozen mixed veggies
-spicy greenbeans
-avocado
-1/4 c. lowfat plain yogurt, salt & pepper

It was so filling!  My apologies again for no pic, but it wasn’t that pretty anyway.   Just use your imagination and I’m sure you’ll come up with something much more appealing.

And of course my tummy hurt all afternoon again.  Umph.  This is getting old.

I really wasn’t hungry for dinner, but had a small salad and a piece of momma’s spanakopita anyway.  There was something off in the spinach pie – we believe the culprit was some freezer burned dill – but it was tasty nonetheless.

Nowww I’m bored at work, not hungry yet, but considering eating now anyway.  I’m sure I’ll wait until 1pm to eat, and immediately get some huge client request and not be able to chow down.  Gotta get the food in while the seas are calm!

Have a good day!

Half way day?

August 11, 2009

Today could be the halfway day for getting my cast off!  It’s been 4 weeks, and the lower end of the range is 8 weeks. Sooo I could be 4 weeks away from being cast free!  Man, I hope so.

Yesterday’s Chop’t salad finally arrived, and by the time it got there I was only half hungry, so I only ate half.  It was the Palm Beach Shrimp salad with shrimpies, avocado, hearts of palm & romaine. With balsamic vinaigrette.  Delish.

Thennn I got called into a “meeting” at 3pm, that turned out to actually be a surprise birthday meeting, complete with coffee, chocolate pecan pie, and strawberry pistachio muffins.  Wow, can my coworkers bake.  I really wish I could have taken a picture for you!  I honestly was not hungry at all and could have completely passed – but they made them for me, so I just could not say no.  I ate a piece of each.  And thenn my tummy hurt.  Gah, you live and learn.

Physical therapy after work went very well, but I came home with still an achy belly, and ate a small salad before passing out.  My mom & sister have a bug, so I’m hoping this just passes.

Breaky this morning was a light one – some 2% cottage cheese with a mashed banana, some sliced almonds & a tablespoon of craisins.  I have coffee in front of me too, but I feel like that’s just not helping this morning.  I might have to save it for later.

Lot’s of work to do today so I’m off.  Cross your fingers for some pictures soon!

RIP Camera :(

August 10, 2009

Disaster!  My camera has gone the way of the woolly mammoth :(   Darn birthday partying took it out of him.  He just couldn’t hang.

These posts sure are going to be boring without any pictures…but hopefully a new baby camera will be making an appearance in my life ASAP.  In the meantime…

My birthday weekend was AMAZING, full of fabulous friends, tasty beverages & TONS of great eats.  My tummy still hurts a little.  Oops.

We’re going to call today Healthy Monday.  It also happens to be my first day back in the office!  Hellloooo real world!

Breakfast was some cottage cheese with garden strawberries, a tablespoon of sliced almonds & a naner on the side.  Breakfast dessert was a delicious little white chocolate macadamia nut cookie that my coworker brought me for my birthday :)   So nice.  SO delicious.

Now I’m mega-hungry for lunch, but my Chop’t salad is estimated to take 60 minutes for delivery.  Gosh I hope it hurries up.

Have a good Monday!

Bad Blogger

August 7, 2009

I sure have not been a very good bloggie these last few days.  Sorry – I’ve been busy!

And last night I had dinner with a new friend (  ;)   ) and I felt really weird taking pictures of my food at the restaurant.  I wasn’t quite ready to tell him about the blog…hah.  Oh well. So you don’t get pictures of my DELICIOUS skirt steak, salad, bread, cheesey tortellini alfredo, shiraz, OR peanutbutter chocolate pie dessert with a candle on top.  I’ll tell you though, it was heavenly.  First birthday dinner of many more to come this weekend :)

There also may or may not have been 2 Abita Turbodogs at the bar after dinner. It’s my birthday week.  I do what I want!

I can however, show you my very healthy afternoon snack yesterday:

Picture 002

AB on WW with a naner.  On the way to PT.  Abrievs are awes!

Anddd this morning’s breakfast was awesome:

Picture 003

The other half of my serving of mom’s homemade rice pudding, with some blubes, cherries & a FIG. I adore figs.  It was so gorgey inside, too, but I thought the bite marks were a little much.  I’ll cut one up later to show you the beauty!

Picture 004

I ate all of the fruit and then wasn’t that hungry (maybe it was the massive steak & pasta dinner? Could be..).  I left the pudding and slowly ate it over a few hours of work this morning.  I was supposed to have the day off, but alas, something came up and I had some work to do.

Done now, and heading out into the sunshine!  Going to be all over the place this weekend, so posts might be few and far between, but I’ll post a big recap on Sunday for sure.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND WORLD!

Invisible Breakfast

August 6, 2009

I went to sleep last night with a terrible headache, and somehow, forgot to set my alarm! Oooops.  I blame the headache.  I woke up this morning at the bright and early hour of 10am.  Guess I needed that sleep!  Too bad I was supposed to be signed on to work at 9…

So I jumped straight on the computer and started tackling emails and tasks, and before I knew it, it was noon and my stomach was yelling at me growling.  I had completely forgotten about breakfast!  This has never happened before in my life.

Since it was now the afternoon I decided lunch was in order.  And I was dying to try these new Damascus Bakeries Whole Wheat Roll-Ups from Costco!

Picture 001

I added some plain lowfat yogurt, half a cup of chickpeas, avocado & cherry tomatoes.  Fresh & Delicious!!  Wrapped it all up…

Picture 003

And it promptly fell apart as soon as I tried to eat it…

Picture 008

Gah!  It still tasted good, though.  Maybe next time I’ll need to use a little less fillings.

I enjoyed my brinner with a big bowl of berries that absolutely needed to be eaten today.  I’m working on not throwing away another bad berry this summer!

Picture 004

Juuuiiiiiiicccccyy!

In sadder news…it’s looking like I have to cancel my Summit trip :(   Stupid car accident.  I was SO looking forward to this trip and meeting all my fellow bloggers!  So bummed.

But chin up, right?  There are more important things in life, like being ALIVE, so I’ll take what I can get.

AND it’s almost the weekend!
